To the Cousin from Yaffa

art/video, Songs of the Sunbirds by Yara Ghabayen

8×8, watercolor on paper

At the start of the aggression, my friend Rafi Saqer was one of the people that helped me stay hopeful. They gave me a sense of family away from home and reminded me the importance of creativity and imagination for hope. We both have our moments reminding one another that we will see each-other in Yaffa. This painting was for them. For inspiring the revolution inside.

Yara Ghabayen, 24. Palestinian born and raised in Gaza. Currently in the US, attained a BS in Environmental and Natural resource economics and currently working on becoming an educator in hopes of returning to Gaza and teaching one day. Instagram @ YaraGhabayen.
